Why Google Removes Apps from Play Store?

Every year Google runs a security check on their play store. Now, this is necessary because of malicious apps. Google Play Store is a huge marketplace for different apps and files.

But it is not always necessary that every app the google store contains is a hundred percent genuine. The problem is that you cannot identify which apps are infected and you should not download.

That is why this year when Google ran a scan over all the apps contained in the play store, it identified 85 such malicious apps that contained adware and instantly removed them from the play store.

That is what today’s blog is about. We will discuss why and how Google took these steps and what are the consequences they are facing.

What’s in the news?

Recently Google has initiated a wave in which it has removed over 85 apps from their play store. Just like I have mentioned earlier. Sometimes there are some apps included in the app store that contains adware and also malicious functions.

These apps hide in the Play store in the form of games, online television and many more. These apps camouflage themselves so that you download the app thinking that it is a genuine app like other apps.

What are the apps that got removed?

Google has a responsibility to remove the unnecessary apps which contain adware and malware from their Google PlayStore as per give their users the best apps.

During this wave, 85 such adware apps got removed and those are,

How these apps could have harmed you?

This issue was first identified by a group of security researchers and then later it was reported to Google. According a study it has been seen that these apps were being downloaded for over nine million times.

Some of these apps had similar source code. This means that despite having different APK public key certificates, these apps were controlled by a single operator.

These apps can harm you in many ways. Like if you download an app (among the above list) and then the app will ask you to enter your personal credentials. Now once you enter your personal details, the hacker or intruder sitting on the opposite side can easily get access to your private pieces of information.

These apps also hold the capability of displaying full-screen pop-up ads and can ask you to click on several links to continue. Sometimes there are cases where people encounter these kinds of situations and after following the steps the app finally crashes and stops working.

There are other types of apps that will track your actions of the phone. That means whenever you open your lock screen it shows a full-screen ad on your phone before you visit your home screen. And this will continue every time you open or close your phone until you uninstall that specific app.

So what’s the solution?

There is no specific solution to these kinds of problems. As it totally depends upon how much you are aware while downloading a new app for your use. The problem is that people do not research well before downloading an app and that can be very dangerous in some cases.

Well if you ask me for a personal solution then I would say that you should keep some points in mind before download a new app from the PlayStore.

  • Research well before installing a new app.
  • Read the reviews and comments before pressing the “install” button.
  • Only download the app you need.
  • Choose wisely

So keep in mind that from now on you should be more careful before downloading an app on your device. You never know what’s gonna happen with you.
